Now in my opinion it's really fine while figuring out your own personal style to steal from the stars of the silver screen. Film characters are the best source of inspiration, but dont steal the whole look of a particular character or you may look like you just fell into a fancy dress box. Rather, try to choose a few key items to incorporate into your wardrobe, the key is to be subtle and choose your character well. Think about your own style and shape, also age, these are all important factors if you want to pull off your look with dignity. Don't in other words choose Lolita as your character in hotpots, heart shape glasses and crop top if you think people will throw stuff at you and point and stare, this look is definitely age dependant, however Liv Tyler, In the film Empire Records, wearing tartan kilt, mohair jumper, and Dr Martens truly fucking rocks for me! It's such a great look that most of us 35 and under can pull off. I just love how this look is childish but also very alluring. This is my all time fav look and I'm willing to keep paying tribute to it, at least for the time being....
Street style North Carolina, people watching, looking at all these cool and individual characters leads me to ask why they choose their style? And what makes them comfortable in their choices? Well my conclusion is it takes time to find our own personal style by experimenting which of course included sometimes getting it very wrong, but eventually feeling comfortable in our chosen personality. Today we head to a hip little town called Chattanooga in Tennessee to follow in the footsteps of Jackie Kennedy Onassis who back in the day made the town famous for thrift shops, and it still remains so today thanks to her.
It wasn't always cool or acceptable to shop in thrift shops. It was in the early 70's there were only a few, and going to shop in one often meant you couldn't afford to shop in a retail store. Then came the summer of 1974 when word got out that Jackie Kennedy Onnasis was selling her unwanted clothes to a thrift store here. It seems that Jackies super-rich husband put her on a strict clothing allowance of $25,000 a month! Poor girl I mean can you imagine? That's only 1 Hermes bag a month. Anyway she converted this to cash by buying super expensive clothes and then selling them to a vintage/thrift consignment store. Word leaked out, so it was now cool for girls to shop thrift I mean if it's good enough for Jackie.... So girls here are my finds from my trip here which will soon be available to shop for at Paris Texas Vintage. Ladies and gentlemen I give it to you: day 3 of our fashion road trip. It's 32F and sunny here in Florida and we have spent a couple of days shopping free, to stay with some friends in a cute little place called The Villages. It's kinda a cross between the film Stepford wives and Disney for adults. Now I cannot stress enough how delightful this place is, it's not for me right now as it's the biggest retirement village in the USA, but these golden oldies are not the kind you or me have experienced they are super fit playing volleyball, tennis, cycling and running! Think Cocoon without the friendly aliens. Everyone here gets around on a golf cart, some of them being Bentley's and Rolls Royce's. Bars and restaurants are plentiful oh and there's dancing in the square every night to tunes liked blurred lines! And there is cruising and pulling going on around here that would have given studio 54 a run for its money in its heyday. Bianca Jagger naked on her horse back aside this place is very entertaining and hey these's folks are really living life. It doesn't feel real here it's so perfectly pristine and after two days I am still finding myself thinking there's a control room somewhere keeping everyone and everything in order...
So although I didn't find any fashion item's during my time here I did find a very cool retirement village you may like to consider for your future? Well here we have it, my purchases from the estate sale, perfect totes. These gorgeous babies will be available to buy early October from paristexasvintage.com but if you can't wait, which I would totally understand, you can pre-order and I will wrap beautifully and send to you right away.
Every girl needs a transportable receptacle to shove her collection of clutter into, enter the beach tote. Now I know we all love arm candy and there are some pretty cool canvas totes out there to pile all your stuff in and although it may not be a Chanel classic quilt bag but the bonus is you can shove it in the washing machine without having a mental breakdown. ![]() G'day USA, we have arrived! Just touched down in Tampa, 30 degrees and sunny, Amen. Spent day 1 with family and lovely food, followed by quick dip in pool before the zzzzzz's set in. Feeling happy but pretty jet-lagged. Day 2 and 3 I expect we will be getting the bus ready for our road trip. I have many great shopping destinations already on my list but first this week is a Palm Beach estate sale, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways? First, they have the most beautiful vintage Chanel suits in every colour you can imagine and old vintage Louis Vuitton steamer trunks so full of vintage shoes and accessories, you'll want to fall in and never come out. You have heard the expression; the pursuit of happiness? For me, it's the happiness of pursuit! ![]() And so it's started! Looking at the weather in Florida this morning really got me motivated, happy and excited. My schedule is going to be pretty packed and full, but hey i'm so lucky to have this life. I can't wait to hit the road and start shopping for Paris Texas Vintage A/W collection of beautiful vintage and retro clothing. I must add it's going to be a difficult transition thinking about Autumn as I plan on spending most of my trip in a bikini and cut-down denims. The journey will start with touch down in Florida and a few days relaxing with family and friends before the itinerary begins... We will be starting in Tampa and heading for Panama City followed by Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, oh, and lots of beautiful places in between. I'm going to shop my converse off! and will post all the gorgeous items I find along the way. I hope you enjoy our journey and don't forget to shop your style, take a selfie in a Paris Texas Vintage outfit and I will post it in our Hall of fame customer Gallery. xxx ![]() Our road trip is your ultimate style destination. We are hitting the road and travelling around the USA. Shopping so you can find a unique style to call your own from our collection of amazing Vintage and Retro clothing. Keep checking in as we will be posting new stuff almost daily. We welcome you and hope that you visit our blog often. Enjoy... Well today's blog is going to be all about tomboy style, for someone who likes to indulge in boyish behaviour it goes without saying that appropriate attire is required. Choose an outfit that looks easy but edgy.
We all know that jogging bottoms are relaxed, but in my opinion that's taking it a bit too far. It's more about attitude, switch your heels for brogues or trainers and throw on a baggy boyfriend jumper over a tea dress. As I said before you are looking to create a cool and edgy look here, think Natalie Portman in the film Leon. Now talking of films my first film character crush was Annie Hall, I just fell in love with her style. A total Woody Allen novice that started my obsession with a masculine way of dressing, nobody ever made a pair of high-waisted trousers and a man's tie look as cool as Annie Hall! I had serious tomboy style envy. A great refrence to follow is also 1970's men's striped shirts, tweed jackets and frilly victorian blouses, these will mix femininity with a scruffy thrown-together look, a laid back elegance is what you're looking for here. However if your tomboy style is more street then choose beanie hats, converse, old denims and slouchy sweaters to give yourself attitude, Skateboard is optional here. So here we are this weeks countdown to the Paris Texas Vintage fashion road trip and with that in mind I'm going to talk about the Groupie, groupie style is all about looking sexy but low maintenance, but don't overdo it, and look like you're wearing all your belongings at one! Short shorts, tiny t-shirts, scarves and most definitely the obligatory sunglasses are good.
Generally, looking as though you could be in the band and not just with the band is a great way to get a backstage pass. The musician is your style icon, look to 60's bands for your inspiration like the Rolling Stones who were not afraid to be free and experiment with their clothes. Their groupies were hot property just look at Marianne Faithfull, who in my opinion was so fucking cool, the original groupie who also happened to win the heart of Mick Jagger! So all you budding groupies out there grab a leather biker jacket or an afghan coat, some platform shoes, sunglasses, and remember these are a MUST! Take hold of your heart Rock stars and groupies = heartbreak, but hey think of all the fun you will have, you can smoke legal and illegal cigarettes in places where a smoking ban has been in place for years, and you can wear a blanket instead of a coat and no one will judge you because your group is so fucking cool. Go make your future, Groupie... ![]() Hey fashionistas, it's that time again for Paris Texas Vintage to go shopping!! in the USA.
