With Xmas season coming up, there doesn't seem to be a weekend that goes by without me thinking about buying a new party dress. After all, every where we look the rich and famous are wearing the best dresses, practicing their best expressions and celebrating party time in the run up to Christmas. 

And of course our favorite thing about Christmas parties is the outfits! Retro style and looks that are easy to recreate are out in force. I can't believe how the temperatures have dropped this last week in Wales! Just 11 days ago I arrived home from my buying trip in the USA, and the weather here was glorious, so much so that I was still running around in bare legs. This week however it felt like it was freezing already! But I must say for those of you that are new to my blog, and don't know me yet, I just love Autumn and Winter from a fashion state of mind. I get really excited about all the layers I can wear. You can have so much fun concocting outfit combinations, just be sure to pick your pieces carefully so you don't end up looking like some sartorially inspired mad scientist.

So girl's why not have some fun being adventurous with our autumn/winter vintage/retro collection here at Paris Texas Vintage?

Here is my guide to layering:
The key to being warm but not bulking up starts with innerwear. You will need the right pair of tights and an under-the-sweater base layer in the thinnest merino you can, thin fabric really keeps the warmth in.

Cashmere and merino is the softest and warmest kind of wool, and are always preferable to cotton ones, sweatshirts and hoodies are also great if they are fleece lined. Throw any of these over a pretty summer dress or pair with a mini skirt and tights.

Faux fur coats and jackets provide warmth,  a touch of luxury, and an instant injection of cool! and for all you rock chicks a leather biker jacket will keep you toasty if you add a thin merino base layer inner jacket available from all good mountaineer shops like Blacks. I use one under all my spring jackets and it never shows and definitely does the trick.

 

There are are few wardrobe items that to me just make life easier. Like a grey cashmere sweater, a crisp white shirt, and my good ole trusty vintage Levi denim shorts. They are an all year round wardrobe staple in my opinion, and hey, if they are good enough for Alexa Chung...

Now since we're still in-between seasons, and thanks to the amazing weather we keep having here in Wales, I am indulging in one of my favourite things to wear: vintage denim shorts. 

If you thought finding the perfect pair would be easy, your soooo wrong! It's not for the faint hearted and definitely not for the quick shopper, buying these babies takes patience and time and a loyal and honest BFF. The length, rise, and wash will determine how they will look when on.

So chick I'm going to show you three different ways I like to wear them, so you and your Levi's can live happily ever after together..

Look 1: Keep to a lighter wash denim for a summer casual look.  Add vintage tee's and trainers.

Look 2: Choose a darker wash denim like Miss Chung for after dark and team them with a classic blazer and blouse. This look is understated sexy and a great way to get the whole 'done, but undone' thing going on.

Look 3:  For your winter look choose either light or dark wash denim here and add opaques  or sheer pattern tights. Now Just add biker jacket and boots if your feelin like a rock chick or Doc Martens  and fishnets if you wanna do the whole grunge thing.

So here we are this weeks countdown to the Paris Texas Vintage fashion road trip and with that in mind I'm going to talk about the Groupie, groupie style is all about looking sexy but low maintenance, but don't overdo it, and look like you're wearing all your belongings at one! Short shorts, tiny t-shirts, scarves and most definitely the obligatory sunglasses are good. 

Generally, looking as though you could be in the band and not just with the band is a great way to get a backstage pass. The musician is your style icon, look to 60's bands for your inspiration like the Rolling Stones who were not afraid to be free and experiment with their clothes. Their groupies were hot property just look at Marianne Faithfull, who in my opinion was so fucking cool, the original groupie who also happened to win the heart of Mick Jagger!

So all you budding groupies out there grab a leather biker jacket or an afghan coat, some platform shoes, sunglasses, and remember these are a MUST! Take hold of your heart Rock stars and groupies = heartbreak, but hey think of all the fun you will have, you can smoke legal and illegal cigarettes in places where a smoking ban has been in place for years, and you can wear a blanket instead of a coat and no one will judge you because your group is so fucking cool.

Go make your future, Groupie...
