For years I have had a picture on my fridge of Jane Birkin, amazingly cool, sitting on a suitcase in the street with a red beret and looking ultra chic in a trench coat. I'm not sure what I wanted more the coat or to be her. That same trench, which has been made famous by so many movie scenes over the decades. Holly Golightly wore it with class in the kissing in the rain scene in Breakfast at Tiffany's. The trench in my opinion has magical powers in that it can make a T-shirt and jeans look instantly cool, or an evening dress seem less formal, or layer over silk trousers and sneakers for instant street- style.
