When I was in my early twenties I had a T-shirt that had the words choose life emblazoned across it in black italics. Later that year I ramped up my rebellion by wearing a Crass vest I wanted to experiment with anarchy.
Fashion has always been about self expression, but in this moment of political upheaval,and ceaseless change, capturing a mood is simply not enough.
We want our message to scream and shout! Sloganeering is all over the caltwalk and now its making it's presence on the high street too, The hashtags and captions are leaping from our smartphones and onto our clothes. People feel they need a voice and wearing it on our clothes make people read It. To wear your rights on your body has resonance.
It's twenty years since I wore that choose life T-shirt and although i'm spoilt for choice with options today i'm not sure that I will be wearing I love unicorns anytime soon.
Having said that, slogan Tees are not going anywhere and i'm excited to see what awaits us in the upcoming seasons. Check out slogan T-shirts and sweats in my shop.
